Cracked heels are a common foot problem in adults. I remember every night my granny and mother applying some cream and then going to bed. So when I checked her feet they were completely dry and had heels fissures or cracks.
For most people, cracked heels aren’t a serious issue until they are deep and cause pain.
But what are the major causes of cracked heels?
More often the cracked heels are due to excessive dryness and no proper foot care.
Along with that,
- Standing for long hour
- Using footwear that doesn’t fit properly, open sandals or high heels
- Irregular walking habits
- Dry skin due to cold, dry climate, low humidity, specially the winters make the entire body very dry.
Don’t worry, I have mentioned simple home tips to HEAL your HEELs!
To take care of the cracked feet, one should first exfoliate the dead skin and then moisturize.
- Soak & Exfoliate your feet
The skin around the affected heels is usually thick and dry. To help with the healing process, start with soaking and exfoliating your feet. Soak your feet in warm salt water for about 10 min and then scrub them using a foot scrubber or pumice stone. Exfoliation helps to scrub off the dead skin layer which looks dry. This should be a part of daily routine. Even during daily showers, just scrubbing away the heels keeps the feet soft and healthy.
- Moisturize your feet
After exfoliation, moisturizing heels is very essential for healing
Applying heel balm, thick moisturizer, shea butter, petroleum jelly, or even medicated oils, sesame oil on your feet provides essential moisture. Application of such thick cream ensures softening and hydration of the outer layer of the skin. Following proper foot care is necessary to avoid cracked heels. If you don’t moisturize your feet regularly they may dry out even faster
- Pack up your feet
After deep moisturization, covering your feet by wearing socks helps to lock in the moisture and soften the dry cracks. If you wear shoes every day, moisturize your feet daily before pulling up the socks. Using silicon heel cups also helps prevent the heel pad from expanding. Ensure that you wear a comfortable shoe which fit well. Avoid wearing plastic shoes on a daily basis.
- Trust Ayurveda
Ayurveda mentions the use of oil over feet to keep them soft and supple. It is known as padabhyang. Doing it regularly not only heals the feet, it also ensures sound sleep for better health. Oiling the navel also helps in reducing the dryness of the body and skin.
Eating seeds and nuts like almonds provides natural fats which slowly moisturizes the skin naturally and promotes healing. Reduce excess weight too, as this may put extra pressure on the heels.
You may also use Ayurveda foot care cream like foot care cream, which is the best foot care cream and one of the best-selling creams in the market. It is clinically tested and shows great healing and moisturizing effect and is very effective for cracked heels.
Pamper your feet with moha: foot care cream enriched with the goodness of papaya, almond oil, peppermint like refreshing and deep moisturizing agents.
