Natural Lip Balm: All That You Need to Know

Lips are among the most vulnerable parts in our body. The skin over the lips is ultra-sensitive. The skin on lips is much thinner than the skin on the other parts of body. Lips do not have oil glands like normal skin affecting their ability to generate oils for protection. Hence the only source of natural moisture is saliva inside the mouth. Lips get constant impact due to eating and drinking food items of varied temperature, texture etc. Environmental factors such as dust, exposure to the sun, cold temperatures, dry weather, affects the lips. All these factors can lead to cracks, dryness and chapped lips.

Lip balm acts as a barrier between lips and the environment. It forms a protective layer on lips and lock moisture in for a long time. There are many lip balms in the market, but Organic lip balms are more effective & safe compared to other lip balms. Lip balm helps to keep the lips moisturised.   1. Beetroot lip balm

Take half a cup of grated beetroot and Strain the juice out of them with the help of cheesecloth. Mix one spoon of ghee with the beetroot juice and refrigerate overnight. Then you can use it as a regular lip balm. Beetroot contains pigments betanin and vulgaxanthin which help in brightening of dark, pigmented lips and give the lips natural reddish-pink colour. Ghee has healthy fatty acids which act as a moisturiser.

  1. Cinnamon lip balm

Add 2-3 drops of cinnamon oil in one spoon of cocoa butter. Mix them well and refrigerate overnight. Then you can use it as a regular lip balm. Cinnamon is an antioxidant and acts as a natural lip plumper because of its tingling effect. Cocoa butter hydrates and nourishes the skin. It also tones down the tingling effect of cinnamon.

All these lip balms are handy so it can be used as and when required. It can be applied by taking a sufficient amount of balm on clean finger and gently rubbing it on the lips. It must be applied in circular motion on lips to form even thin coating. While using lip balm, some simple tips can provide better protection of lips. Here are some simple tips for lip care.
